Coaches

Coaches play a vital role in the Denver Women’s Hockey League by helping new and developing players learn the game. Their guidance makes the sport more accessible, builds confidence on the ice, and helps foster a welcoming, supportive environment for all skill levels.

Coaches are assigned to both Novice and Intermediate divisions (depending on availability of coaches). Novice teams are assigned 2 coaches per team; Intermediate teams are assigned 1 coach per team.

Games

The Novice division has 2 practices, 8 games, and at least 1 single elimination playoff game per season. The Low Intermediate division has 1 practice, 9 games, and at least 1 single elimination playoff game per season.

The High Intermediate and Advanced divisions have 10 games and at least 1 single elimination playoff game per season.

Days and times of games vary based on the season and time of year. We typically play at Sports Stable on Sunday and Tuesday and at Apex on Wednesday and Thursday. Games usually start anywhere between 9pm and 10:45pm, but at certain times of the year (typically April-August) games can start as early at 7:30pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get paid as a coach?

Yes, though some coaches choose to volunteer their time. Coaches are paid $30 per game and must provide a W2 form.

Can I choose which division I coach for?

Yes! Though we encourage coaches to be open to both divisions. We also recommend that first time coaches start out in the Novice division.

Can I request a specific team or co-coach?

Requests for specific teams will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are approved typically based on carpools. You are welcome to ask for a specific co-coach for the Novice division (2 coaches per team), though we cannot guarantee you will be assigned to the same team.
