Referees and Scorekeepers

Thank You for being such an integral part to the success of our league. It is because of you that DWHL is able to fulfill its mission to create a welcoming, all-levels adult ice hockey league in Colorado, dedicated to helping women learn, play, and grow in the sport—whether you're new to the game or returning to the ice.

If you are reffing or scorekeeping for us during the 2025 Winter Playoffs, please be sure to review our Playoff Rules and Expectations before the first playoff game. All Regular Season Rules and Expectations should also be followed.

Referee Requirements

Age Limits: Must be 18+

Certification: Must have a current USA Hockey Certification. For more information, please visit the USA Hockey Website.

Scorekeeper Requirements

Age Limits: Must be 15+ and if under 18 have a Colorado working permit.

Hockey Knowledge: While hockey knowledge is not required it is helpful. However, we provide on the job training and have a Scorekeepers Cheat Sheet to help you out.

Rinks & Game Nights

Games are played at two rinks in the Denver area - Apex in Arvada and Blue Sport Stable in Superior.


We currently play on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Game start times range from 7:30pm to 10:45pm depending on time of year.

Pay

We pay refs and scorekeepers on a monthly basis during the season. You can be paid via Check, PayPal, or Zelle.

  • Referees: $60 per regular season game and $75 per playoff game
  • Scorekeepers: $30 per game

Seasons & Divisons

DWHL has 3 seasons throughout the year:

  • Winter: Starts in January/February
  • Summer: Starts in May/June
  • Fall: Starts in September/October


We currently have 3 - 4 skill-set based divisions each season. Our divisions are Advanced, Intermediate (occasionally split into High and Low), and Novice.
